Almost a half century after its original opening, the movie many call the "greatest science-fiction film of all time" is getting a new trailer.

Ahead of a special limited British release of 2001: a Space Odyssey in November, a new trailer, commissioned by Warner Bros. is now online. The trailer is the first for the title in four decades and uses Hal-9000, the film's almost-human computer, as the central figure to create an intensely eerie experience.

The film's director, Stanley Kubrick, died in 1999.

In other Kubrick news, the Simpsons' parody of the Kubrick-directed A Clockwork Orange (seen on this years Treehouse of Horror episode) is generating renewed interest in the director.  But this is not the first time the Simpsons have paid homage to the Kubrick catalog:
