An avalanche near Cookie City, MT claimed the life of a 33-year old Bismarck man Saturday, December 19th.

According to KTVQ.com, five people from North Dakota were snowmobiling on Sheep Mountain when the avalanche was triggered at about 1 p.m. Three of the five became buried.

One of three buried was able to self-rescue and help the others find the two remaining. Once the 33-year old man, identified as Jason Wald from Bismarck, was located, CPR was performed. The man died a short time later, according to reports.

The riders were experienced and carried all of the equipment necessary for such a trek, including avalanche beacons, probes, and inflatable airbags.
