“420” Rally Combines Religion and Reefer
In Colorado, the first state to legalize marijuana, the heretofore "stoner" holiday "4-20" has taken a stab at going mainstream.
The Denver Post reports thousands converged at Civic Center Park in Denver Sunday, to fire up joints and bongs in an event that seemed to combine the spirituality of Easter Sunday with the pleasures of the weed.
The more religiously motivated sang "Amazing Grace" in the morning; later in the day stoner-rapper Snoop Dogg entertained the crowd.
Authorities report the event went largely without incident, though police issued several citations for public pot-smoking.
