6 seconds after leaving the launch pad on the Virginia coast early this morning, NASA's unmanned Antares rocket exploded.

The unmanned mission was carrying supplies to the International Space Station, including experiments designed by school children to be conducted by the scientists on board. The supplies weren't immediately needed. Another resupplying mission is being planned.

No casualties have been reported after the explosion, and the only damage reported happened to the launch area.

This was the 2nd attempt at launching the rocket. The first one, slated to happen this morning, was cancelled when a sailboat entered the launch area causing a safety concern.
