Big Moon Over Bismarck Last Night, To Happen Again Next Month

Just in case you missed the big moon over Bismarck last night, fear not, it'll happen again next month and again in September.

The full moon last night was unusually big, so big that it's nicknamed ‘‘supermoon.’’

That’s the names given for  full moons that happen when our celestial neighbor is fairly close to Mother Earth. There is some discussion about the distance  because the moon follows an elliptical orbit. When it’s close and full, it appears bigger and brighter than normal, although in fact the difference can be hard to detect.

If you missed it, fear not, we have 2 more supermoons coming up this summer.

August 10 and September 9, are the other summer dates of supermoons.

It’s not all that unusual to have a supermoon. You may remember, we had three last year. It may not be unusual,  but they are real cool to witness!
