The Lyft ride sharing service is doing what it can to distance itself from the recent sexual assault incident in Mandan.

As NBC North Dakota News reports, authorities charged Corey Wickham this week with two counts of gross sexual imposition after driving a woman home from a bar.

A spokesperson for the Lyft company made the following statement:

"These allegations are horrific. From day one, the safety of our community has been our number one priority - we have absolutely no tolerance for this behavior on the platform. We have reached out to the passenger to extend our full support and assistance, and permanently banned the driver as soon as we received this information. We stand ready to assist law enforcement with an investigation."

Local Lyft drivers say they hope this will not reflect badly on the Lyft community at large.

Few in the community seem to be faulting Lyft for the incident but are advising caution.
