A 36-year old Bismarck man attempted to rob a convenience store Sunday night, April 3rd, but when the clerk told him he was going to call the cops, the suspect said he was 'just kidding.'

According to KFYR-TV, the suspect, identified as Thomas Kelly, entered the convenience store, located at 3921 Trenton Ave., and demanded money from the clerk. As he made his demand, he reached into his pants, as if he were reaching for a weapon.

Instead of handing off the money, the store clerk told the suspect that he would call the cops. The suspect responded by telling the clerk he was 'just kidding,' before going into the bathroom and then leaving the store.

A surveillance video from the store helped the Bismarck Police Department identify the suspect. He was arrested at a nearby motel and taken to the Burleigh County Detention Center.

Kelly is currently being held on $5,000 bond.
