Charge Against DAPL Reporter Dropped

A journalist arrested at the Dakota Access Pipeline Protest last year is to have at least one charge dropped at the request of prosecutors.

The Bismarck Tribune reports Morton County prosecutors filed a motion this week to drop the charge of "engaging in a riot" against journalist Jenni Monet.

The judge in the case is reported to be considering a request by the defense to drop a second charge: trespassing.

They argue the trespassing charge is "legally insufficient" as it does not offer specific details about Ms. Monet's conduct.

Ms. Monet is one of seventy-four people arrested in February of 2017 while she was reporting on police activity during the protest.

Police at the time were in the process of clearing protesters from the Last Child Camp.

Jenni Monet is described on her website as "an award-winning journalist" who writes about Native American issues for a number of publications.

Ms. Monet's trial is scheduled for June 1.
