Christmas Travel Forecast Could Be Sketchy

The road to grandma's house could be a dicey trip depending on where you're departing from and where you're traveling to. According to the AAA, one in three will hit the road this holiday season and that equates to over 100,000 million travelers on the roads on the US.

Locally, Bismarck-Mandan could be looking at another winter storm on Christmas Day. We're still out a few days, so timing is important on the movement of this system, but it could impact North Dakota with wind, snow and possible sub-below temperatures. The mild weather we have this week could very well change by the end of the week. This we know, it will be cold for Christmas Day.

Across the nation, many holiday travelers will encounter some form of weather related delays, be it land or air.

Storms will cause warmth and the use of windshield wipers in the South and the possible threat of flooding, while travelers along the East will have arctic cold temperatures with ice and snow.

The metro areas that will see a wet holiday will be Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Cincinnati, New Orleans, Nashville, Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston.

According to Accuweather, portions of I94 could be wintery and slippery during a portion of the Christmas holiday.
