While North Dakota Democratic Party website has accused state Republicans of authorizing "robo calls" to citizens in defiance of state law, state Republicans have responded by saying there was never any intent to break the law.

Demnpl.com posted a "press release" Thirsday saying the state G.O.P. has admitted to making campaign robo-calls on behalf of State Sen. Margaret Sitte (R-35).

The site quotes state Democratic-NPL Party Chairman Bob Valeu: “We received a call from a District 35 resident who had received a robo-call...According to the Attorney General’s office, the Republicans admitted they were making these calls into the district.”

The Attorney General's office told SuperTalk 1270 the calls were technically not "Robo Calls" (which are dialed automtically) ; they were manually dialed "pre-recorded messages" (the distinction is confusing to many; both types of calls are now illegal) and that the G.O.P. did in fact violate the law, and have ceased making the calls.

A spokesman for the state Republican office says the confusion resulted from a change in the state laws, and that after consulting with the Attorney General's office the party is no longer making pre-recorded calls.
