A Bismarck Police Officer was involved in an early morning car accident in the early morning hours on Dec. 21.

According to a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, at 2:18am they responded to the intersection of North 7th Street and Rosser in Bismarck.

The Bismarck Police Officer, Dawson Rogstad was traveling south on North 7th Street in a fully marked vehicle.

The traffic light at the intersection of 7th and Rosser at that time was flashing yellow.

Meanwhile, another driver, Andrea Lawler from Linton, was traveling East on Rosser Avenue. The light for Lawler was flashing red which requires her to treat the signal as a stop sign.

Lawler failed to stop at the red light and pulled into the intersection without stopping.

Officer Rogstad applied his brakes but unfortunately hit the passenger side of Lawler's vehicle.

Lawler was cited with Driving Under the Influence. Lawler and a passenger in her car were uninjured.

Officer Rogstad was treated for minor injuries at Sanford Hospital before being released.

The news release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol did not state the estimated cost of the damage to the police officer's vehicle.
