Final Cop Killer Escapee, Shot and Caught After Weeks on the Run
The nation was following the nationwide search for the two escapees from the Clinton Correctional Center in New York. Today, the entire saga came to an end with the capture of David Sweat who was shot twice and is now in the hospital for treatment.
After 3 weeks, the final escapee was captured after a short pursuit on foot and a shooting that took place about 3:20 p.m. (EST). Sgt. Jay Cook noticed a suspicious man walking on the road in the Town of Constable, the police report states. Mr.Sweat was ordered to stop. Instead of following the sergeants orders Mr. Sweat ran. The officer opened fire. Sweat was shot twice in the torso and is in stable condition, and is now in custody.
Two days earlier, the other escapee Richard W. Matt was shot and killed.
