DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — A Grand Forks man is the new chief judge on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation.

The Grand Forks Herald reports 46-year-old Joseph Morsette was sworn in on Monday. He had been director of the Native Americans Into Law program at the University of North Dakota.

Morsette is an enrolled member of the Chippewa-Cree Tribe on the Rocky Boy's Reservation near Havre, Mont., where he worked for several years as a tribal judge.

Morsette is a graduate of UND's law school. He spent four years in active duty with the Air Force and several years with the North Dakota National Guard.
