The calendar turns to August this week and the Bismarck-Mandan area is armed with plenty of events.

At this time of year we begin to think about the back to school season but there's still plenty of summer left to squeeze in.

On August 1, it's National Night Out which celebrates local police departments around the nation and is meant to be a 'going away party' for crime. In Bismarck, the festivities begin at 5pm in the Target parking lot. Get more details here

August 3 brings us the second annual 'Crazy Days' in downtown Bismarck. The goal of the event is to encourage shopping local. More than 20 downtown businesses will feature 'crazy deals' on both Aug. 3 and Aug. 4. More details can be found here.

The Morton County Fair in New Salem also begins on Aug. 3 and will wrap up on Aug. 6. Details regarding all of the events taking place are available on the Fair's website. I personally recommend heading out there on Saturday night (Aug. 5) for Slamabama. They were performing at the North Dakota State Fair on July 29 and they were fantastic!

On August 5th, in the morning, there's a great event for people of all ages who love to run or bike. It's the St. Gabriel's Duathlon at McDowell Dam. The actual duathlon consists of a 5k run, a 13 mile bike trek, and then another 3k run. However, there's also just a regular 5k run, a 10k run and much shorter events for kids. Get more details and sign up here.

Also on August 5th is the 43rd Annual Capital A'Fair. It continues on Sunday, Aug. 6. A plethora of vendors will set up on the Capitol Grounds and there will also be tons of food and entertainment. More details are available here.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of all events taking place in Bismarck-Mandan this week but there's certainly no shortage of things to do all week long. As of now, weather forecasts are calling for some rain on Wednesday in the morning through the early afternoon. Other than that, it should be sunny and warm all week.
