Spooked horses and extensive clean up costs have prompted the Mandan Rodeo Committee to request a ban of all private fireworks at Dacotah Centennial Park.

The Mandan Parks Department have asked their lawyer to draft a new regulation that would ban private fireworks from being lit on all Mandan Park District property. The proposal would still allow for private fireworks displays at the Mandan Rodeo as well as open them up to other Park District property with proper permits.

The new ordinance passed 4-0 in it's first reading Monday. The ordinance has to pass 2 readings before enacting into law.

The new ordinance only applies to private fireworks being used on Park Department property. Fireworks are still allowed in the City of Mandan from July 2nd-4th and also for New Years Eve.
