RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a North Dakota man and his girlfriend accused of eluding police in a high-speed chase were later arrested on drug charges when they were parked at a gas station.

The Rapid City Journal reports that 35-year-old Dennis Volk and 33-year-old Amy Steele were arrested Thursday.

Rapid City police say had their first contact with the Bismarck couple after officers attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding Thursday afternoon. Police say the driver refused to stop and led an officer on a pursuit where speeds reached 90 mph.

Police say the speed and heavy traffic prompted the officer to suspend the chase. The vehicle was spotted later that evening at a gas station.

Steele posted a $1,500 bond Friday. Volk is being held without bond.
