FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Democratic state Rep. Scot Kelsh has pleaded not guilty to drunken driving.

A state Highway Patrol trooper stopped the Fargo lawmaker on Nov. 18. Kelsh's attorney on Tuesday entered his not guilty plea. Kelsh did not appear personally in court.

The charge against Kelsh is a Class B misdemeanor, which carries a maximum punishment of 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine.

Kelsh has represented District 11 in the Legislature since 1996 and was among those who passed more stringent DUI laws in the last legislative session.
