New UND Medical School To Break Ground in 2014

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The University of North Dakota has selected a new site for its School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

UND President Robert Kelley tells the Grand Forks Herald that the $123.7 million school will be built on an 8.25-acre plot of land at North Columbia Road and Gateway Drive.

Funding was set aside during the last legislative session.

UND officials are hoping to break ground in July 2014 and complete construction by July 2016.

Joshua Wynne, vice president for health affairs and dean of the medical school, said the site recommendation committee considered the location's convenience for students, parking availability and how it tied in with the university's strategic plan.

Wynne says no site was perfect, but the chosen one was clearly the best of all of the options.
