Over 5,000 Customers Lose Power in North Bismarck
At about 11:45 Monday morning, approximately 5,200 customers lost power in North Bismarck after a small crane operated by a business on Twin City Drive in Mandan struck a 115 kilovolt transmission line. MDU Spokesman Tony Spilde said the collision tripped out 2 sub-stations in Bismarck, causing over 5,000 customers to lose power. The power went out at approximately 11:45 AM, and was restored by about 12:35.
The majority of the affected area was north of Divide Avenue and west of Highway 83, although some customers south of Divide were also affected. As of 2:00 this afternoon, there were still about 60-70 customers whose power was still affected. These residential customers are mainly west of Washington, between Century Avenue and Arabian Avenue.
Spilde anticipates all power to be restored yet this afternoon.
