UPDATE: the project is on hold for now... A friend calls it, "the revenge of the robber barons"... Sadly, it takes a lot to get stoical North Dakotans to stand up and speak out.  I'm hoping this will do it. An oil company has staked out an oil pad less than a mile from the site of Teddy Roosevelt's Elkhorn Ranch cabin...

In the opening of the TV show "The Beverly Hillbillies", Jed Clampett was just out shooting at some food when up from the ground came a bubbling crude.  After which he loaded up his family and they moved to Beverly...Hills that is...swimming pools and movie stars...

National Geographic has weighed in on the ND oil boom.  The Forum has the story here.   Some will remember the magazine's controversial article on abandoned farmhouses a few years back. Does North Dakota get a fair shake from the national media?...
