Yardbarker recently reported on the best NBA player from every state. This peaked my interest as to who it could be from North Dakota.

Basketball is one of those sports that, at least for me, you don't hear much about. Hockey and football seem to rule our state, including locally in the Bismarck-Mandan area.

While  I was reading the article, I was searching for Yardbarker's criteria for such a list, which seems to be absent. I came to the conclusion, this is just someone's best guess. Let's see if you agree with some of these famous NBA players from various states. You'll notice some great basketball greats on the list.

  • Alabama - Charles Barkely
  • Arkansas- Scottie Pippen
  • Georgia-Walt Frazier
  • Indiana- Larry Bird
  • Louisiana- Carl Malone
  • Michigan- Magic Johnson
  • Minnesota- Kevin McHale
  • Montana- Phil Jackson
  • New York- Michael Jordon
  • North Dakota-Doug McDermott, from Grand Forks, 11th overall pick in the 2014 draft and played for The Creighton University Bluejays, and plays for the Chicago Bulls. He was born in Grand Forks but attended high school in Ames, Iowa.

You can see the best NBA player from every state here, and see if you agree with the list.
