Santa is going to need hand-warmers to deliver his packages Christmas Eve, as wind chill values will be in the dangerous range.

According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, the arctic air mass will settle across most of the state and will remain in the fridge range for most of the final week of 2017. The area is under the influence from a WIND CHILL ADVISORY.

The advisory is effective for the counties of Burleigh, Morton and surrounding areas and including the communities of Beulah,Hazen, Center, Garrison, Washburn, Underwood, Wilton, Harvey, Medora, Dickinson, Mandan, Bismarck, Steele, Jamestown, Mott, New England, Elgin, Carson, Bowman, Hettinger, Fort Yates and Linton.

A WIND CHILL WARNING is in effect for areas North, North-East and North-West of the Bismarck area.

Wind chill values will be as low ad minus 40 in some area, which is life-threatening wind-chill values.

The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed
skin. Expect wind chills to range from 25 below zero to 40 below zero.
