BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — State wildlife officials say there is no way to know for sure whether a mountain lion that was shot and killed south of Bismarck is the same one that was spotted near an elementary school in the area.

A deer hunter killed the 85-pound female lion on Friday. Tom Doering tells KXMB-TV that he had seen reports of a lion causing a scare for Prairie Rose Elementary School, and had it on his mind that he might encounter a big cat.

Game and Fish Department Enforcement Chief Bob Timian tells The Bismarck Tribune it seems likely the lion is the one spotted near the school, but that it's impossible to say for certain.

Students at the school were kept indoors at times last week as a precaution.
