Today, many popular websites including Tumblr and Netflix have intentionally slowed down their websites in an attempt to bring awareness to what new rules proposed by the FCC could do to your favorite sites.

You may have heard the term Net Neutrality, but if you're like most people, you have no clue what that actually means. Leave it to a comedian to explain it better than anyone else could! John Oliver took 13 minutes of his show "Last Week Tonight" to talk about what it is, and what the new rules would mean. [NSFW-Language]

Essentially, we're looking at the internet becoming less of a free flow of data between users, and more about how much money ISP's can get for the data you want to access.

The FCC's comment period on this new proposed ruling closes September 15th. If you want to reach out to your representatives, or you want more information on how this could affect you and how you use the internet, Battle for the Net is a great site full of fact checked information on the proposed rules, and what you can do to make your voice heard.
