Harold Ramis, the man behind such comedies as "Stripes" and "Ghostbusters," has died.

The Chicago Tribune reports Ramis died early Monday at his home on Chicago's North Shore of complications from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, which causes swelling of blood vessels.

The versatle Ramis was best known for his work as an actor and writer; his work includes "Caddyshack," "Stripes," "Animal House," "Ghostbusters," and "Groundhog Day."  Early in his career, Ramis worked with the famed Second City television troupe.

Harold Ramis was 69.
