I was actually near the area this morning, but I don't recall hearing any fire engines with their sirens on

I received a Facebook message that there was some activity going on down at the old Pier One building on South Washington Street. For those of us that have been in this city for a while, we have all wondered just how long this building would stand vacant. The time has come for the new owners to take over, but first, there was some work to be done - on the outside.

...training recruits on all the latest procedures, and going over all the real-life situations that firefighters could face out in the field. Bismarck Fire Engines 2,3, and 4 were out there, and Bismarck Fire Battalion Chief Dale Hurt, who has been serving our city for 29 years told me on the phone this afternoon that everyone that participated out on a sparkling sun-splashed 50 degrees morning "Got to experience some of the "state of the art" drills that really have been the same for years" - Entering a disabled building through the roof, dangerous situations that are amplified even more when the structure is on fire. The new owners allowed the firefighters to train on their building over the weekend and into this morning.

For those that may have been concerned about what they saw this morning, THIS was just another training day for BisMan's Finest

Without a doubt, my favorite part of my job is asking the question "What do you love about your job?" - Chief Dale Hurt paused for just a second and said, "It all comes down to helping people, and there is always something different almost every day..."  Thank you to Chief Hurt and all the rest of the men and women in the Bismarck and Mandan Fire Department that do a million things to keep our city safe!
