We are still a few days from Halloween. If you're like me, things get in the way to distract you from even thinking about the big day. After 50 years, I still get a kick out of seeing the things people come up with for a costume. That said, you might be stuck for an idea this year.

It's time to put on your thinking cap (or witch's hat) and conjure up the perfect costume for a night of eerie enchantment. North Dakotans, known for our resilience in the face of frigid winters and our love for all things wild and wonderful, have a unique set of options when it comes to dressing up for the spookiest night of the year. I asked an AI generator to come up with a few costume ideas for us in North Dakota.

  1. Lumberjack – Grab a flannel shirt, jeans, boots, and a beanie. Add a toy axe, and you’re a North Dakota lumberjack ready to chop down imaginary trees.
  2. Farmer – You likely already have overalls, a plaid shirt, and a baseball cap. Add a piece of straw in your mouth, and you’re ready to embody a true North Dakota farmer.
  3. Wind Turbine Technician – Wear a safety vest, helmet, and work boots. If you’re up for it, add a toy wind turbine prop for a costume inspired by North Dakota’s renewable energy industry.
  4. Snowstorm Survivor – Layer up with winter coats, scarves, and snow pants, and carry around a shovel or snow scraper to show you're prepped for a North Dakota blizzard.
  5. Oil Field Worker – A hard hat, work boots, safety glasses, and a simple work shirt will turn you into someone working in the Bakken oil fields.
  6. Bison Fanatic – Represent the North Dakota State Bison! Throw on some NDSU gear—jerseys, hoodies, or anything green and yellow—and bring a stuffed bison for extra flair.
  7. Ice Fisher – Wear a winter coat, a warm hat, and carry around a fishing pole or a mini cooler for bait. You’ll look ready to set up shop on a frozen North Dakota lake.
  8. Rancher – Dust off your cowboy hat, boots, and denim jacket. If you’ve got a lasso, even better. You’ll embody the rugged spirit of a North Dakota rancher.
  9. Mail Carrier – Slip on some comfy walking shoes, a blue shirt, and carry a bag of (fake) mail. Add a North Dakota touch by pretending to battle the elements as you deliver.
  10. Sunflower Farmer – North Dakota is known for its sunflower fields. Wear overalls, add some sunflowers (real or fake) to your outfit, and maybe carry a small basket to complete the look.

No matter which costume you choose, gear up, stay warm, and enjoy a spooktacular Halloween! If you have a few more suggestions, let us know on our social media pages.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
