Picture this: You’re all set for that long-awaited 2025 holiday getaway. The suitcase is zipped, your travel playlist is ready to roll, and you can practically smell the hot cocoa waiting at your destination. But before you head to the airport, especially if you’re flying out of North Dakota, there’s one important reminder from the TSA: leave those beautifully wrapped gifts… unwrapped.

Yep, whether it’s tucked into your checked luggage or riding along in your carry-on, the Transportation Security Administration says wrapped gifts are a no-go.

TSA Reminds North Dakota Travelers: Unwrapped Gifts Make for Smoother Holiday Flights

“We know it’s disappointing when travelers have their gifts unwrapped before they make it to their destination,” TSA Federal Security Director for North Dakota David Durgan said in a statement. “However, when an item triggers our alarm, our officers must resolve the issue and make sure the item isn’t dangerous or prohibited onboard an airplane.”

Not exactly the kind of holiday surprise you were hoping for, right? Still, there’s an easy workaround that keeps your travel stress low and your holiday spirit high.

Another option? Save the wrapping party for later. Pack your gifts, bring the wrapping supplies, and finish the job once you arrive. It keeps TSA happy, keeps your gifts safe, and ensures no one gets an early peek at what’s inside.

So as you gear up for your 2025 holiday travels—whether you're flying across the country or just hopping a short flight within North Dakota—give your wrapping paper a little vacation of its own. Skipping the wrap at the airport just might make your journey smoother, quicker, and a whole lot merrier.

Safe travels and happy gifting!
