Want to Serve Your Community? Williston, North Dakota School Board Seeks New Member
The Williston Basin School District #7 School Board is looking for a community member to fill a vacant seat following the resignation of school board member Corey Swint.
Swint officially resigned from the board on July 13, 2026, after being elected as Williston's new mayor. With his transition into the mayor's office, the school board has voted to appoint a qualified individual to serve the remainder of the current term through June 30, 2027.
Unlike a regular school board election, this vacancy will not be filled through a public vote. Instead, members of the Williston Basin School District #7 School Board will review applications and make the appointment during a special meeting scheduled for August 6.
Community members who are interested in serving are encouraged to apply before the deadline.

Who Can Apply?
To be considered for the appointment, applicants must meet all of the following qualifications:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be at least 18 years old on the day of the election
- Be a North Dakota resident
- Have lived within the Williston Basin School District #7 boundaries for at least the past 30 days
Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements to be considered.
Important Dates to Know
Those interested in applying must submit all required application materials by 4:00 p.m. CST on Monday, August 3, 2026.
After the submission deadline:
- By August 4: School board members will receive application packets for review.
- August 6 at 12:15 p.m.: The board will hold a special meeting to appoint the new school board member.
- August 10 at 5:30 p.m.: The newly appointed board member will participate in their first regular school board meeting.
The appointed individual will serve from August 6, 2026, through June 30, 2027. The final year of the term, running from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2028, will be filled through the normal election process.
