Ever since they got their start in Belgium - not France - in the 1600s, what we now call 'french fries' have been a staple in the diets of people around the globe.

But as the different methods of preparation for the sliced potatoes have evolved over the years, the debate as to where to get the best fries has intensified.

Finance Buzz is trying to settle all of those arguments with their list of the Best French Fries in All 50 States.

Their choice for South Dakota is TapHouse 41 at the Western Mall in Sioux Falls.

Their fries are cooked in duck fat and topped with parmesan salt. They also have a sweet potato option with secret sauce and parmesan herbs.

Iowa's entry on the list is Hudson’s Southside Tap in Iowa City.

They bill their offerings as 'Fancy Fries' on the menu and there are no fewer than eight different options:

  • Pulled Pork
  • Short Ribs
  • Sloppy Joe
  • Poutine
  • Chili Cheese
  • Bacon & Onion
  • Handcut with Cheese Sauce

In Minnesota, Peppers & Fries Restaurant in Minneapolis is the choice.

They've got all of the basics covered with Chili Cheese, Plain, and Cheese fries, but what sets this place apart is the pairing of two tastes that you don't necessarily think complement each other.

Peppers & Fries offers PB&J Fries, which are billed as 'fresh-cut fries tossed with peanut butter and our own house-made pepper jelly'.
