First of all, does a ceiling fan really cool a whole room?

I unfortunately do NOT have one in my bedroom, and if I did, the actual sound of it slowly swirling around at night would help me fall asleep - but does it actually cool down a room?

According to hunterfan.comUnlike air conditioners, ceiling fans don't actually lower the temperature in a room. Instead, they offer a "wind chill effect" that helps you feel cool from the breeze brushing against your skin. Keep in mind that ceiling fans are designed to cool people, not rooms"

Bismarck Alert-Doctors Say Turn Off Fans At Night During Summer

Now, why in the heck would ceiling fans be a potential health hazard? Obviously unless one of them falls on your head, doctors say to turn off fans at night during the summer. Do you have any guesses why? If you said "Allergies" you are correct. "switching on the fan during the ongoing bout of blistering heat, suggesting that those with allergies might wake up significantly worse for wear"

Constant airflow in the room can stir up allergies and dust, leading to sinus infections.

According to ladbible.com “Running a bedroom fan all night can create hidden stress on the body. The fan cools the skin by speeding up evaporation, and that steady airflow can leave the nasal passages and throat uncomfortably dry by morning - A dry airway produces thicker mucus, which can trap allergens and irritants close to sensitive tissue"

So there you go....take a cold shower instead, that's what I usually do.
