Bismarck’s Gymnastics Academy – Future Olympians?
What a beautiful weekend we just had here in Bismarck - some big-time events took place...
...the running of the 43rd Bismarck Marathon yesterday ( Sunday ), and a picture-perfect parade on Saturday - Autumnfest. I ask you this, "who doesn't love a parade?" The 20th year - and once again high school bands were lining up on the grass in front of the Capitol. All of our radio station vehicles were in place - US 103.3..Hot 97.5...Cool 98.7...and 96.5 The Walleye. My favorite part about the whole event is the look of excitement that you can see on the faces of those who are IN the parade.
Minutes before the start, I ran across an inspiring group of young athletes
About 10 yards away from me, a very casual backflip was performed by a 14-year-old. I had to know more, so I walked over and talked with Brenna Mosbrucker - she is the executive director of Bismarck's Gymnastics Academy. Over 20 enthusiastic kids were stretching out on the street, ready to march and dazzle the huge parade crowds. "The oldest is 16, and the youngest ( get this ) is around 18 months" - Brenna told me that this group competes in gymnastic meets, around 9-10 times in a season - from November through May. They can be a State qualifier leading up to Nationals.
"...practices 4 times a week"
That's the commitment these amazing kids have shown - I wanted to make sure I captured the moment every one of them was going through minutes before they proudly represented their Academy with smiles and agility. Keep your eyes on these athletes, you may see them wearing a USA uniform :) -- Check out this wonderful group:
