Here In Bismarck – Easily The “Greatest Honor” In Your Life
We are fortunate to work with a man here in Mandan who takes pride in our city, and country...
...and those men and women who served in our military. Such a special event just took place over the weekend - The Western ND Honor Flight. For two days over a hundred North Dakota veterans experienced Washington D.C./ The US Capitol / Arlington National Cemetary / The World War 2 Memorial / The Navy, and Air Force Memorials / and The Lincoln, Korean, and Vietnam Memorials. Steve Bakken from our sister station Super Talk 1270 AM ( Talk Of The Town ) experienced the honor first-hand as he was part of their trip. I asked Steve what it meant to him...:
"Humbling. That's the only word that comes to mind when I think about my experience on the Honor Flight. It was amazing to get to be a part of the full gambit of emotions surrounding this trip. Every Veteran felt their own personal sense of grief, loss, anger, joy, appreciation, humility, and patriotism, as well as every other emotion you can imagine. It didn't matter which branch of the military, the one thing that I keep coming back to is the sense of camaraderie that they all shared on this trip through their service. I was fortunate to have shared this flight with my father-in-law and his war buddy, as well as many old and new friends from North Dakota. Besides the committee, volunteers, sponsors, and donors, I especially want to thank the Bismarck/Mandan and the entire community for being at the Bismarck Airport to give these Veterans the welcome home and thanks that many didn't receive, but thoroughly deserved. It was an honor and a privilege to be a small part of saying THANK YOU for your service"
I think what Steve said says it all, I also believe in actions, and I was so proud to see the pride and emotions of those who came out to the Bismarck Airport to greet the veterans when they returned last night. There were tears in the eyes of many, and one such gentleman was "Overwhelmed"
Take a couple of moments and look at the emotional pictures that Steve took from their trip, and THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HAVE WORN AN UNIFORM, AND TO THOSE THAT ARE WEARING ONE NOW.
