Minot, North Dakota, is not a large city at all; we all know that

Fargo, of course, is the largest city in North Dakota, checking in with a population of 136,285 ( 2024 Estimate ). Bismarck is 2nd at 77,772, and Minot is 4th at 47,440. I lived in Minot for almost 5 years ( from 2015 to 2020 ), and I loved how charming and gracious the people were to me. I had a great time out there, and I don't remember violence being much of an issue at all. Looking at some statistics from 2023 - North Dakota had 24 homicides - according to attorneygeneral.nd.gov •" In 2023, twenty-four homicide deaths were known to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program. Based on a state population estimate of 783,926*, the resulting homicide rate for the state of North Dakota was 3.1 per 100,000 population"

In the last year or so Minot has had more violent incidents

Just last month, there was a murder. According to inforum.com "A Minot woman has been charged with murder following a Saturday afternoon shooting that left one man dead in southeast Minot. When officers arrived, they found 38-year-old Lance David Phillips, of Minot, suffering from gunshot injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead"

Just this morning, another homicide was reported

This morning the Minot Police Department Facebook page posted this:

"Minot Police investigate early morning homicide.
The Minot Police Department is actively investigating a homicide that occurred earlier this morning in the 500 block of 2nd Street NE in Minot.
At this time, investigators have no reason to believe this was a random incident.
Additional details will be provided as the investigation continues"
I still fondly remember an easy-going, friendly Minot
