Spooky season is upon us, and I know many of us are looking forward to a good scare at a haunted house. While that's fun and certainly frightening, there are a few other things in North Dakota that are much more terrifying.

I've put together a list of 8 things that are scarier than a haunted house in North Dakota.

1. Potholes

Every time you step out your door or hop in your car, the fear is there. It's not a matter of if, but when will one of these giant craters eat our cars.

There are restaurants and stores I refuse to go to simply because of the pothole situation. I fear my poor car won't make it out alive.

2. Typing In A Long Wi-Fi Password

Uppercase, lowercase, uppercase, symbol...oops, missed a letter. It's honestly overwhelming. Why does it have to be so complicated now? North Dakotans need something easier, like "Hotdish123."

3. Saying "No" To A Favor

Saying "No" goes against our nature. North Dakota nice runs deep. When someone asks us if we can do them a favor, we brace ourselves for the task we are about to happily agree to do.

4. Road Construction

Road construction season should be wrapping up soon, but not soon enough. Nothing is more terrifying than trying to figure out which side of the road you're supposed to be driving on. -- Those candlestick cones are the worst. They make absolutely no sense.

Yes, soon we won't have to worry about getting to work late. Soon we will be able to drive across town without it taking 25 minutes.

5. Holiday Travel

The holidays will be here before you know it, and getting to and from North Dakota in the winter months can be quite the scare.

There are limited flights to Bismarck, so if you're on your way back home, there's an 80% chance one of your return flights will get canceled. I've had this happen to me; I ended up spending Christmas Eve in a hotel room in Texas. TEXAS! I was traveling from Illinois.

6. Walmart

It's a shopping experience that is sure to send chills up your spine. Finding a parking spot where your car won't get dinged, walking a mile just to get into the store, trying to find a cart without a wobbly, squeaky wheel, waiting on slow people to figure out what they're doing.... it's bad. It's nightmare inducing.

7. Looking At Yourself In The Mirror When Getting Your Hair Cut

Nothing is quite as shocking and ego-bruising as this. You catch a glimpse of yourself in the chair, wearing an unflattering black cape, your hair is wet and parted all wrong...you think to yourself, "Am I really this ugly?"

You close your eyes and wait for the hideousness to go away. You pray your stylist can work miracles.

8. Getting Tagged In A Memory On Facebook

Nothing is more frightening than getting one of these notifications. Before you click to see what repressed memory is about to resurface you think to yourself, "Is it from my White Claw phase?" or.. "Could this be from my bad eyebrow phase?" or... "Did my grandma finally figure out her password?" -- in which case, a number of horrifying things could pop up.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
