After 40+ Years, Ostrom’s Ace Hardware in West Fargo Is Closing

Ostrom's Ace Hardware has been operating in West Fargo since 1986, for more than 40 years. Sadly, we've learned that the store at 1100 13th Ave E is closing up shop for good. The current owners, Jodi and Brett Kallais, have operated the store since 2021, when the original owners retired. They shared the news with Inforum on Monday, Oct. 5th.

Why The Store Is Closing

The owners told Inforum that closing the store was a difficult decision, but several factors ultimately led them to make the call. Those include decreased foot traffic, rising operating costs, including sales tax, utilities, and the annual lease, as well as increased competition from online shopping; they will have to close their doors. The owners said their sales have decreased 30 percent just in the last 5 years.

Shoppers still have time to place orders and shop the store. They will continue to take and place orders through October 14th (2026), after that, the store will shift its focus to selling off its remaining inventory.

Jodi and Brett Kallais also own another West Fargo store, ShayWest Garden; they say that store will remain open and carry some products Ace Hardware customers might need such as pet food, gardening supplies, and maintenance tools. The store is located at 225 40th Ave. W.
