Can you believe it? How are we already talking about summer ending? It feels like it just started. We had a slow start getting into those summer temps, and with all of the rain, we haven't had much opportunity to get outside and enjoy the sun.

Now, August is approaching, kids are getting ready to go back to school, and before we know it, the Bismarck pools will be closing for the season.

As a matter a fact, the Bismarck Parks and Rec sent out a news release today (July 25th, 2025) to give us a heads up as to when the pools will be closing for the year.

In the release, it says over the next few weeks, one by one, we will see the pools close up shop. I know what you're thinking: "Why are they closing so early? We still have all of August left to go."

While that's very true, and August is typically a scorcher, there's a very simple explanation for this.

As I mentioned earlier, kids are getting ready to go back to school. High schoolers who usually staff the facilities and all the young kids who visit the pools will not be around or available. With that, the summer pool season comes to an end.

The closing schedule is as follows:

Friday, Aug. 8th -- Wachter Aquatic Complex

Sunday, Aug. 10th -- Hillside Aquatic Complex

Sunday, Aug. 15th -- Elks Aquatic Center

The "Pool Pooch Party" will still go as planned on Saturday, Aug. 9th at Wachter.

Keep in mind the free splash pad at New Generations Park will stay open through Labor Day weekend in early September, so you have a little extra time to get the kids over there for some pool fun.
