Surely you know where the Bismarck Police Station is located; it's hard to miss. Hopefully, you've never been hauled in there and have only driven past it.

The current Bismarck police station sits at 700 S 9th St in Bismarck. You might be surprised to learn that the City of Bismarck has begun the process of securing a NEW location for a NEW police station. That's right, BPD is getting an upgrade.

According to a recent press release, the city made the first of three payments over three years, last month, in October. The total cost for the 9.8-acre parcel of land will come out to a total of $5 million.

The press release also stated that construction on the site will not begin for some time. It looks like it is expected to begin sometime in 2027.

Bismarck's Police Chief said this new police station will be a huge help and upgrade for the department.

“This location will allow us to grow with the community and the size of the lot will allow the department to centralize many of our significant assets under one roof and expand our intelligence-led efforts," said Bismarck Police Chief Jason Stugelmeyer.

The site is located near the intersection of Century Avenue and Valley Forge Street.

I'm sure you're wondering what will happen to the current police station once this new one is completed. In the press release, it said what will happen with the South Ninth station is still undecided. Some have suggested repurposing it as an expanded training facility.

"Retaining our current police station for training and maintaining a police presence in south Bismarck will allow us to build a smaller facility in north Bismarck than was originally proposed,” said Bismarck City Commissioner and Police Portfolio Holder John Risch.

We will have to wait and see what will happen with the current police station, and in the meantime, look out for more updates and progress with this new station.
