North Dakota Target Stores To Pull Cereals With Synthetic Colors From Shelves
Growing up, we've always known the cereal aisle as being bright, colorful, and full of cartoon characters. While the packaging might remain bright and full of the colors of the rainbow, the cereal itself may not.
Target recently made an announcement that across the country, they would be removing all cereals from shelves that contain synthetic colors. This would make them one of the first major retailers to make this change. According to Fox49, many cereals contain synthetic dyes like Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, and Blue 1, which are often linked to various health problems.

Some cereals with synthetic colors include: Fruit Loops, Apple Jack, Squishmallow Cereals, Trix, Lucky Charms, and Captain Crunch Berries.
You may think that a change like this would empty the shelves in our North Dakota source, but the BBC says 85 percent of cereal sales come from products made without synthetic dyes.

According to BBC the phase out has a lot to do with pressure from US Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr and the Trump administration. Not only that, but consumer research has been showing that everyday consumers are more health-conscious and are taking a closer look at packaged foods and what chemicals they are being made with.
Fox says the retailer is working with some brands to reformulate their products to keep them on the shelves.
The retailer is expected to remove all cereal products with synthetic dyes by the end of 2027.
