Spring is a beautiful time of year, when we start to see signs of life all across North Dakota. Our winters are brutal, and we're still not quite in the clear yet, but the anticipation of spring is certainly hanging in the air.

We love to see the snow melting across North Dakota, but once it does, it's not spring flowers that start popping up. No, after several months of ice, snow, and below-freezing temperatures, the dreaded potholes come out to play.

There's nothing quite like hitting a pothole unexpectedly. You feel the thud and your whole body cringes. It's almost like you feel some sort of sympathy pain for your car. Before we start playing the dreaded, curve around the crater game, I thought it might be helpful to show you some easy ways to report a pothole.

Fargo

In Fargo, it's pretty simple, actually. If you want a pothole addressed in your neighborhood, FargoND.gov says you can simply go online to FargoOne, and report the road rot there. You can also call the street department at (701) 241-1453.

NOTE: If the pothole is on an interstate or ramp, you will have to report the issue to the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT).

Bismarck

In Bismarck, if you want to report a pothole, you have a couple of options. You can either call the Public Works Street Department at (701) 355-1700. You can also go to the City of Bismarck's website and use its "Report a Concern" tool.

Grand Forks

Grand Forks actually has a much easier number to call if you're within the city limits; to report a menacing pothole, simply dial 3-1-1. If you are outside the city, you should call (701) 746-4636. Another way to report is through the Grand Forks Service Portal, online.

There are similar sites and phone numbers for other North Dakota cities; those are just some to get you started. Remember, if you would like to report a pothole on an interstate or ramp, you will need to contact NDDOT.
