I've said it before, and I will say it again. I've never been to a BBQ that I didn't like.

There is something about grilled flesh that not only tastes delicious but smells just as good. I would estimate that I cook for my family 90% of the time during the week, and my go-to is the grill.

I'm not saying that I'm the best grill-master in Bismarck, but I bet I'm in the top 10. :)

There is somewhat of an art to it. You have to know your grill, know what temperatures to safely consume your meat, how hot you should run your grill, and of course, the best seasoning to go with the meat you are serving.

A lot of what I have learned over the years is through trial and error. Also, I watched what my father did and made sure I did the opposite.

My dad grew up in the era when you took the spatula and pressed down on your meat as hard as you could to squeeze as much of the juices as possible out of the meat. Then we would all wonder why our burgers tasted like hockey pucks.

I was headed down this road too (draining the meat of all juices), until a friend of mine spoke up to me when I was in college and showed me the error of my ways.

What are some of my favorite things to grill besides traditional burgers and steaks?

Pheasant is a very underrated animal to grill. There is virtually no fat in pheasant meat, and it is so healthy for you. That's why you literally have to grill it for a few minutes on each side, and if you do it right, juices will run out of the meat, and it is so tasty.

I'm also a big fan of ribs, pork roast, pork tenderloin, chicken, and waterfowl (ducks and geese) on the grill.

All of the aforementioned have their own challenges, and certain tips and tricks that I have learned over the years to make them melt in your mouth.

Now, what about the meat that is ILLEGAL to BBQ in North Dakota?

I'm not going to lie to you, most of these should be pretty obvious. Yet, it always seems like there is that one person who is clueless. With that being said, let's roll the tape.
