Bismarck Residents Speak: Is It Time For Fireworks In The City?
The name of the new citywide 4th of July celebration this year in Bismarck is "The Red, White & Boom".
Speaking of the "boom," now, residents of Bismarck are speaking out about whether the Capital City is ready to join the likes of Mandan and Lincoln and allow its citizens to be able to shoot off fireworks within the city limits.
It sounds like it's a pretty black and white question. Should citizens have the right to celebrate Independence Day by doing what so many of us love, shooting off fireworks? And, doing it on your own property in the city.
As it turns out, the question is anything but black and white and has many layers to it.
I recently as my listeners on-air, on our social media pages, and on our app, the very same question. I'm going to show you some of their responses.
Some of our listeners really brought up some good points (both for and against), and I wanted to share them with you. I know it got me thinking.
I thought this one was interesting. Allow only in certain areas of the city.
This one brings us the curfew dilemma. I know people were shooting off well past 2 am last night, where I live south of Lincoln, and I'm tired because of it.
Some really good points about pets and our veterans.
Here's one suggesting limiting the types of fireworks allowed inside the city of Bismarck.
Another interesting point about people who work non-8-5 jobs.
What if the city of Bismarck limited it to two days a year? Another interesting idea.
Lincoln resident says it's too much already in Lincoln.
More anti-fireworks comments.
As somebody who would support a short timeframe for shooting off fireworks within the city of Bismarck, I have to admit, there are a lot of good points against it.
I believe the people have spoken for now. Thank you for all your feedback, Bismarck, Mandan, and Lincoln.
Happy 4th of July!
