Bismarck has changed the name of its annual 4th of July citywide party to "The Red, White, and Boom!"

The "boom" might just be more than fireworks this year. Unfortunately, we have a chance for severe thunderstorms on the 4th of July. This is according to WDAY-TV's chief meteorologist Jesse Ritka. This would make it 3 straight Fridays in a row of severe weather.

We are still a ways out from Friday and the 4th of July, so things could certainly change, but even the National Weather Service in Bismarck has thunderstorms in the forecast for the 4th

Bismarck-Mandan does have an elevated risk for thunderstorms on Independence Day.

According to a representative from the National Weather Service in Bismarck, who I spoke to said they have us at a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, and some of those could be severe.

With that being said, at this point, they are not expecting a widespread severe weather outbreak. The funny thing is, I heard that exact same phrase from a local weather media outlet (who shall be nameless) last week, and we all know what happened on Friday.

Like the National Weather Service told me in Bismarck, you just never know when it comes to summertime. Storms are always possible, and heat and humidity can conjure up severe weather.

We are expecting the heat and the humidity to build in later this week across North Dakota.

Temperatures are expected to reach the lower 90s in Bismarck-Mandan starting Wednesday, and the humidity will follow, which could bring us thunderstorms Thursday evening, Friday, and Friday evening.

Let's hope these storms are not as robust as the last couple of Fridays, and you still are able to fit in your 4th of July fun, including fireworks.
