Gas Company Converting To EV Stations Coming To North Dakota?
According to Inside EVs, oil giant Shell plans to divest 1000 of their gas stations across the country and reallocate them.
What do they plan to do with them? Shell wants to convert 1000 of their gas stations into EV charging stations between 2024 and 2025. Now, 1000 gas stations may seem like a lot, but it's 4 percent of all of the gas stations they own in the United States. A drop in the bucket if you will.
Is there a chance any of these Shell EV Charging stations will see North Dakota soil?
The locations of these 1000 stations have not been announced at this time.
We (Bismarck) actually have the most Shell gas stations in the state, and according to the Shell website, we have others located in the following cities:
Bismarck (4)
Minot (3)
Devils Lake (1)
Dickinson (1)
Fargo (1)
Garrison (1)
Jamestown (1)
Mandan (1)
Steele (1)
Washburn (1)
Considering how many people are actually driving EVs in North Dakota at this time, I would say it's unlikely that Shell would be converting any of our traditional stations for EV charging stations.
Why would I say such a thing? I'm strictly going by the numbers.
Did you know that North Dakota has the fewest numbers of EVs than any state in the country?
Yep, it's true, according to Exploding Topics, we have the fewest electric vehicles in the entire nation. How few? Try only .08 percent. A total of only 640 EVs in North Dakota. That works out to adoption rates lower than 1 in 1000.
That tells me that the oil giant Shell isn't going to be quick to cut off our traditional gas stations anytime soon.
If you don't have an EV yet (I mean who does?) don't sweat it, we won't be losing too many of our gas stations in the near future in North Dakota
