Much Of North Dakota Braces For INSANE Damaging Winds.
It's somewhat rare that wind warnings are issued days in advance but that is exactly what is happening for much of North Dakota. We're talking about the kind of winds that could make travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
A High Wind Watch is in effect from Saturday morning through late Saturday night.
This has been issued by the National Weather Service in Bismarck. All of western and central North Dakota are included in the watch, and this includes all of our listening areas in south-central and southwest North Dakota.
Notable cities expected to be affected include Tappen, Dawson, New Leipzig, Wishek, Carson, McClusky, Towner, Gackle, Steele, Napoleon, Ashley, Bismarck, Mandan, Lincoln, Elgin, Fort Yates, Selfridge, Linton, Strasburg, and Hazelton.
Strong west to northwest winds up to 40 miles per hour with wind gusts to 60 miles per hour. North central and northwest North Dakota could see wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour.
Impacts expected from this wind event in North Dakota?
There could be damage to roofs, tree damage, small outbuildings, and signs. As mentioned earlier, travel could be difficult for high-profile vehicles in central and western North Dakota.
You are advised to secure loose items around your yard like lawnchairs, trampolines, and garbage receptacles.
After a windy day on Saturday and high temperatures in the upper 60s, you can expect a much nicer day on Sunday, with much lighter northwest winds, and comfortable high temperatures in the mid-60s.
A big warming trend is expected for next week with high temperatures near 80 degrees starting Tuesday.
