How Dangerous is North Dakota Right Now?

Even the most DANGEROUS city in North Dakota fails in comparison to most urban areas across our country. North Dakota "nice" is a real thing, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have your guard up and always be aware of your surroundings.

All of our more populous cities in North Dakota have some bad "apples" in them. There's just no getting around that. No matter what city you live in, there are parts of that town that you should avoid to prevent trouble, especially at night.

I looked into recent FBI data that showed the overall rates of both violent and property crimes per capita. One thing that stands out in the latest rankings is that cities that experienced rapid population growth due to the oil boom still feature higher rates of assault and property theft per capita.

Luckily, North Dakota is still well below the National average for crime. That would be the good news. Some of our neighboring states are not so lucky. South Dakota and Montana, for example, are similar to the National Average. While Minnesota is below the National average, like North Dakota. (Minnesota, really? After Minneapolis almost burned to the ground?)

This Top 10 list's data is based on the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Program from their most recent release. It includes violent crime data such as assault, robbery, rape, and murder per 100,000 people.

Ranking Cities 2,000 or More

Only North Dakota cities with a population of 2,000 or more people are included in this study. Again, be thankful you live in the state of North Dakota, where you can feel safe the majority of the time. That being said, be vigilant and always be thinking of your next move to avoid a dangerous situation.
