After two rounds of severe thunderstorms over the weekend, it looks like North Dakota may kick off the week with more of the same.

Severe thunderstorms are possible across much of North Dakota today, and especially in southern North Dakota. Much of southern North Dakota is in a Level 2 threat for severe weather. Extreme southern and southeast North Dakota is at a Level 3 threat.

Here's a map from the National Weather Service in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Timing and impacts for today's storms.

UPDATE: We are in a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 4 pm this afternoon.

We could see hail as large as ping pong balls, and damaging winds up to 80 miles per hour. A tornado or two is possible, too.

According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, it appears these storms will initially reach the Capital Region between 1 and 3 pm today, Monday, July 28th.

The potential wind damage appears to be the biggest concern with this approaching system.

Our news partner KX News, is also saying there is potential for very strong winds this afternoon. There is still some uncertainty about where this potential wind system will set up. It was initially believed it would be further south and east of Bismarck-Mandan.

It would be a good idea to be very weather-aware this afternoon. Our staff meteorologists from the Severe Weather Studios Radio Network will keep you up to date on air.
