I asked my 21-year-old son what the slang term "6-7" means.

I've seen several parents asking this same question on social media recently. He told me he's seen it used on several memes, and the meaning is pretty stupid. More on that in a moment.

I have to admit, I'm a little outside the demographic when it comes to being on top of all the latest sayings. I like to think I'm pretty "hip" for my age, but I'm pretty sure my son feels otherwise. What can I say, my job keeps me young.

I ran across some data in an email yesterday that caught my eye. After reading it, I realized I'm definitely not as "hip" as I thought I was.

It was the "Most Searched for Slang Words in North Dakota":

This is according to data from Unscramblerer, and here's how they came up with their methodology. They used Google Trends to discover the top trending slang terms and Ahrefs to find the number of searches. America's most popular slang terms can be discovered in Google Trends through the keyword "meaning".

Did you understand that? Me neither. With that being said, let's see how "trendy" you are with today's most popular slang terms in North Dakota.

The 5 Most Popular Slang Terms in North Dakota.

#1. 6-7 - And like my son told me, there is no literal meaning to six seven. It's plain "brainrot" internet humor where the randomness itself makes it funny. It originates from the song "Doot Doot (6 7) by Skrilla. Have you heard that ditty? Me neither. Don't be surprised if kids and teens scream and chant it, often paired with exaggerated hand gestures.

#2 Sybau - This is a naughty abbreviation for "shut your b-word ass up."

#3 Sigma - Refers to an independent, self-reliant person who operates outside traditional social hierarchies, often described as a "lone wolf".  This kind of sounds like me.

#4 Chopped - This term has become a synonym for something that is ugly, undesirable, or unattractive.

#5 Cap - Refers to lying, exaggerating, or something that is not true.

There you go. 5 words that will put you in the "trendy" crowd in North Dakota. 6-7 baby!
