North Dakota: Woman Shows How You Should Live Like You Are Dying
I can't say I make a habit of reading a stranger's obituary.
However, that's exactly what I did when an obituary started circulating on social media over the weekend. After maybe the 10th person on my friends list shared her story, I finally broke down and read it. Her funeral was just held this past Saturday.
I tend to stay away from sad situations. I don't like sad movies or stories of any kind. However, when I finally read the obituary of a woman from Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, I was so glad I did.
Her name was Alexa Bekkerus and she was truly a beautiful soul.
Alexa Bekkerus was born on March 14th, 1997, and passed away on March 3rd, 2025. She was only 27 years old. Way too young.
This obituary was written by Alexa before her death with the final details filled in by her family. I'm not going to give you all the details of what she wrote, but believe me, it will be the BEST thing you read all day.'
Alexa was a very healthy person who was barely ever sick.
Alexa wrote in her obituary, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in January of 2022. She was then given the grim diagnosis from Mayo Clinic that the cancer had metastasized to her bone and gave her a 22% chance of making it 5 years.
She was only 22 years old at the time and was given a death sentence just when her grown-up life was starting. She knew her life was now on a ticking clock, and it's what she did with the next five years of her life that is so inspiring.
When I read the rest of her story, all I could think of was the song from Tim McGraw "Live Like You are Dying".
That is exactly what Alexa did. She made peace with God, accepted the cards that were dealt to her, and made the most of the time remaining.
Please take a look for yourself at how Alexa lived the rest of her life. So many life lessons and how to start putting first things first. Again, what a beautiful soul. Rest in peace young lady.
