As we prepare for strong thunderstorms across much of North Dakota today and tonight, it appears our May heatwave is officially over.

North Dakota is likely to go from sweating to sweaters.

Our 90-degree weather will be replaced by high temperatures in the 40s and 50s Friday through Sunday. If we get some clearing, many areas will likely see frost Saturday or Sunday morning.

The forecast is even calling for SNOW for parts of North Dakota.

Yep, snow in May. Not unusual by any means. Growing up in Grand Forks, I saw my fair share of May snowfall. Even in Bismarck, a couple of years back, I was fishing on the river in May when it was trying to snow. It happens.

Last night on WDAY TV's newscast, John Wheeler's weekend forecast was calling for snow for a good portion of North Dakota. Towns like Bottineau, Belcourt, Rolla, Rocklake, Langdon, Cavalier, Walhalla, and Pembina could all see some accumulating snow Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service concurs with Wheeler's forecast, as snow is mentioned for all of those communities in their forecast as well.

Weather models have also been calling for snow across North Dakota this week.

Again, keep in mind the map above is a weather model (European) and not a forecast.

We will likely be snow-free in Bismarck Mandan, and south-central North Dakota.

However, we desperately need the moisture, and hopefully the "Bismarck Bubble" over the next few days. The forecast is calling for an inch or more of rain for the Capital Region.
